Connect Porkbun to Hostinger

Hosting 4 min read Updated 24 Jul 2026

In Short

Keep the domain registered at Porkbun and point it to Hostinger. Use Hostinger's current nameservers for a simple new setup, or use specific DNS records when existing email or DNS must stay at Porkbun.

00. Pointing Is Not Transferring

You do not need to move the domain from Porkbun to Hostinger.

Pointing changes the DNS directions so visitors reach the Hostinger website.

Transferring changes the company that manages the domain registration.

This walkthrough points the domain. Porkbun remains the registrar and your domain ownership settings stay there.

01. Choose a Connection Method

Hostinger supports two common approaches.

Use Hostinger nameservers

Choose this for a new domain when Hostinger will manage the website DNS and any related email records.

It is often the simpler beginner path because Hostinger controls the complete DNS zone.

Changing nameservers replaces the DNS instructions currently managed at Porkbun. Existing email, forwarding, verification, or other records may stop working if they are not recreated at Hostinger. Email can depend on MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records.

Keep DNS at Porkbun

Choose this when:

  • Business email already works
  • Other DNS records must remain in place
  • You want Porkbun to keep managing DNS
  • Your technical professional will add only the required website records

Hostinger will provide the current A or CNAME values. Enter those exact values at Porkbun.

Do not copy an IP address or nameserver from an old article. Use the values displayed in your own Hostinger account.

02. Prepare Safely

Before changing anything:

  1. Sign in to both accounts.
  2. Confirm the domain is added to the correct Hostinger website.
  3. Take a screenshot or export a record of the existing Porkbun DNS entries.
  4. Identify any business email service.
  5. Ask the email provider which records must remain.
  6. Check whether DNSSEC is enabled for the domain.
  7. Open Hostinger's current domain-connection instructions.

If the domain already handles important email, use the DNS-record method or have a professional review the change.

Hostinger requires DNSSEC to be disabled before pointing the domain to its nameservers. If DNSSEC is enabled at Porkbun, disable it and wait for the setting to clear before changing nameservers. Old DNSSEC information paired with new nameservers can prevent the domain from resolving.

03. Option 1. Change Nameservers

In Hostinger, open the website or domain connection area and find the nameservers assigned to your account.

In Porkbun:

  1. Open Domain Management.
  2. Find the domain.
  3. Confirm that DNSSEC is disabled.
  4. Open the domain details.
  5. Choose the nameserver setting.
  6. Replace the current nameservers with the exact Hostinger values.
  7. Save the change.

Return to Hostinger and use its connection or verification check.

Existing Porkbun DNS records do not automatically move with the nameserver change.

04. Option 2. Add DNS Records at Porkbun

In Hostinger, find the values for pointing an external domain. The exact records depend on the setup.

In Porkbun:

  1. Open Domain Management.
  2. Open the domain's DNS records.
  3. Remove only the old A, AAAA, or www records that Hostinger identifies as conflicting.
  4. Add or update the exact A, CNAME, or other records Hostinger provides.
  5. Do not remove mail records such as MX, SPF, DKIM, or DMARC entries unless the email provider instructs you to.
  6. Save each change.

Then verify the connection in Hostinger.

This method keeps the complete DNS zone at Porkbun.

If the site uses Hostinger Website Builder, follow the current Builder connection screen. Hostinger ended support for the old IPv4 A-record connection method on 20 May 2026. Use the nameserver or CNAME method that Hostinger currently provides instead of an older A-record tutorial.

05. Wait for Propagation

DNS changes are not always immediate. Porkbun and Hostinger advise allowing time for changes to spread, sometimes up to 48 hours.

During this period:

  • The website may work on one network before another
  • A previous website may appear temporarily
  • Repeatedly changing the records can restart troubleshooting

Wait for the documented period before assuming the correct values failed.

06. Check the Result

Confirm:

  • The root domain opens the correct website
  • The www version also works
  • The browser uses https
  • Business email can send and receive
  • Hostinger shows the domain as connected
  • Porkbun still lists your business as the registrant

Test on a phone using cellular data as well as on your normal internet connection.

07. Common Mistakes

  • Transferring the domain when only pointing is needed
  • Copying nameservers from another customer's account
  • Deleting email records
  • Changing nameservers and individual records at the wrong provider
  • Making several different changes before propagation completes
  • Turning off the domain transfer lock
  • Giving away the Porkbun password

Your designer can make the DNS change through delegated access. You should still keep both primary accounts.

08. Completion Check

The connection is complete when:

  • The domain remains registered at Porkbun
  • The website opens from the domain
  • https works
  • Email still works
  • You know whether DNS is managed at Porkbun or Hostinger
  • The original DNS record is stored with the project documentation
